general policy

Admissions to Head Start are made depending on the number of vacancies and based on information provided on a completed application form as well as from personal discussions with the parents.

Head Start follows the Montessori vertical age grouping. We would like parents to inform us of any special/health needs their child may have. This is important as we can keep them in mind while planning the environment. Should we feel we are unable to meet the needs of a particular child we reserve the right to ask that child to leave the school. Of course all attempts to accommodate his/her needs within the Montessori environment will be made.
application
Applications for Admission, both Pre-Primary and Primary, are issued at the Front Office on receipt of the Application Form Fee, either at a specific time of year or at other times if an opening is possible. If there are no vacancies you may leave your child's details on a waiting list and you will be contacted if a space becomes available. Children join the Head Start Pre-Primary Programme between 2.6 and 2.9 years. They are not offered admission once they are 3 years of age. The only exception would be if they have already attended a Montessori House of Children and then too there must be a vacancy.

The Primary programme is for children who have had a Pre-Primary Montessori Education at Head Start. Under certain circumstances and if a vacancy arises, admission may be given to a child from another Pre-Primary Montessori school. All decisions regarding Admission are taken by the Managing Trustee and/or Principal.

  enrollment
A child is officially enrolled in the programme when the school has received the Admission fee and fees for the year.

fees
Parents are expected to pay the fees by the due date. Should a parent/s experience financial difficulties they could address a letter to the Managing Trustee and request for payments in instalments. The payment arrangements should be given to the Public Relations Officer in writing.
Fees may be paid at our office during working hours on normal working days. Cheques/drafts should be in favour of "Head Start Educational Trust".
A returned cheque fee will be charged for all returned cheques.

observation & school tour

Parents are advised to observe in an environment before enrolling their child, especially if they are not familiar with Montessori education as it is very different to traditional schooling. Appointments for Observation can be made at the front office. You will be given a place in one of the environments to sit and observe. The purpose for the visitor is ‘observation’ and not ‘participation’ in the classroom activities. Kindly follow the observation procedure which will be explained to you.
class placement policy
Decisions regarding Class placement rest with the school. The individual child’s social, emotional, and academic development as well as any special needs are evaluated in relation to a particular child’s learning style and temperament. While parent’s views are considered, final placement decisions rest with the school.

Available spaces in each environment are identified in the last term of the academic year for the coming Academic Year.
continuation of enrollment
At the end of the academic year each child will receive information outlining tuition/other fees for the coming year, including a deadline for acceptance and payment. If the school has not received the student’s continuation details by this deadline, his/her place will be made available to new students on the waiting list.
child/staff privacy
Head Start will keep personal information confidential, respecting the privacy of each child and his/her family. The school will not give out phone numbers or addresses of families that have expressed that they do not wish to share information. Similarly, we greatly value the privacy of our staff. The office will not give out their home phone numbers or addresses.

ADMISSION IS BASED PURELY ON VACANCY AND WHETHER WE CAN MEET THE NEEDS OF THE CHILD. SUBMITTING A COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION.
