The Early Years programme and our Pre Primary and Primary Montessori programmes are recognized and accredited by the Montessori Evaluation and Accreditation Board, UK (see list of Internationally Accredited Schools - www. montessori.org.uk).

Head Start is also a member of the Indian Montessori Centre and the Indian Institute of Montessori Studies.

Head Start Educational Academy offers the IGCSE examinations at the High School level.

NOTE
Children from our Early Years graduate to our Pre Primary Programme, thus limiting the number of new entries at the Pre Primary level.

There may be a slight overlap at the end of a programme. e.g. a child from The Early Years who turns 3 towards the end of an academic year (January to March) may move to our Pre Primary from the following June, the start of a new academic year. However, there are adequate, age appropriate activities and materials to take care of the child during such an additional period so that his development is dynamic and uninterrupted.

The Primary, Middle and High School Programmes are offered at Head Start Educational Academy. While all programmes are run by the Head Start Educational Trust, fresh applications are invited for Head Start Educational Academy which is independent of Head Start Montessori House of Children when it comes to admissions.

history

On July 4th 1984 Head Start began in the once quiet suburbs of Koramangala, Bangalore, India. It firmly believes that education in the foundation years is pivotal for the child’s growth and development. Also believing that the Montessori Method is the best for the child, the spirit and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori are the guiding force. Since its inception Head Start has generated tremendous positive energy. It began with three children and now we have over eight hundred. Our main strengths are largely intangible...committed and dedicated teachers, a very supportive parent body, genuine love for children, belief in each child’s potential and a desire to serve the universal CHILD. We appreciate the many blessings we have received.

For twenty years Head Start led a nomadic existence ... starting from the garage of the Founder’s home and then moving thrice from one rented premise to another. In 2001, the concerted efforts of our Managing Trustee bore fruit and we were allotted a Civic Amenity Site in IV Block, Koramangala. Today Head Start has its own Pre Primary building, built on this Civic Amenity site, allotted by the Bangalore Development Authority. The Head Start Educational Trust purchased 5 acres of land on Sarjapur Road for its High School, Head Start Educational Academy. This beautiful campus is fully operational.

In 2010, Head Start began its Early Years Programme for the Child below three years, in 3rd Block, Koramangala, and we are happy to reach out to this younger child through the Montessori philosophy and ideology.

“I envisioned a happy place where children could grow and learn. This vision took root in the garage of my home. Head Start started with three little children. I never imagined the three children would grow to over 800!”
- Samina Mahmood, Founder Principal, Head Start Montessori House of Children.
